What is personal injury?

Personal injury refers to the damage a victim experiences due to physical or mental injury resulting from an accident. This injury may be caused by one’s own actions, but also by someone else.

If this damage was caused by someone else, you are entitled to compensation in many cases. Should you have caused the accident yourself or if the perpetrator is unknown, there are often still possibilities for compensation. For example, if you have passenger insurance.

In any case, Letsolv investigates whether you are entitled to recover those damages and can subsequently file a claim against the liable party on your behalf.

How does personal injury occur?

Personal injury can occur in various ways, for example, through a:

  • traffic accident
  • workplace accident
  • injury caused by (domestic) animals
  • defective product

Letsolv helps personal injury victims by actively guiding them through the (legal) handling of their damages. If you have any questions, you can always contact Letsolv via info@letsolv.nl or at phone number 085-1308965.

What types of personal injury are there?

Personal injury can be physical and psychological. Physical injury is usually recognized quickly and linked to the accident. Psychological damage is often only recognized after some time and is therefore more difficult to link to the accident. This is precisely why we always advise you to visit your doctor immediately after the accident, so that the accident is also registered with the physician. Much personal injury can have a major impact on a victim’s life, especially in the long term.

In general, personal injury can be divided into two groups:

Material damages

Material damages are damages that can be directly expressed in a monetary (value). This includes damage to property, such as a vehicle, clothing, or other belongings. But it also includes loss of income (wages or income from your own business) or the extra costs you incur due to the injury sustained. For example, because you require domestic help for a certain period. Letsolv works with you to identify all these cost items.

Non-material damages

Non-material damage is damage caused by grief, pain, or mental loss. Compensation for non-material damage can be part of the total compensation. Examples of non-material damage include:

  • physical pain
  • mental suffering
  • loss of enjoyment of life
  • grief (because you can no longer care for yourself)
  • but also, for example, if you can no longer go on holiday

For an assessment of your own situation, please contact a personal injury expert from Letsolv. This will cost you nothing.

Letsolv will assess, without obligation, whether you are entitled to compensation.

The consequences of personal injury

Personal injury can have a huge impact on a victim’s life. Even if the cause seems relatively harmless. Due to physical, psychological, or financial consequences, your life as a victim can change drastically. Also in the long term. It is important that you, as a victim, do not underestimate the effects of an accident and address them adequately.

When are you entitled to compensation?

Someone who sustains an injury usually does not immediately think about compensation. Furthermore, experiencing personal injury does not always mean that there is an entitlement to compensation. Only if another party can be held liable for the injury can compensation be claimed. If you are at fault for the injury yourself, it is sometimes still possible to hold the insurer liable. This depends, for example, on the type of insurance you have taken out. Whether a party can be held liable is determined on the basis of Dutch law.

It happens that the perpetrator is at fault but remains unknown. In the Netherlands, there is then a possibility to claim damages for injury from the Waarborgfonds (Guarantee Fund). Conditions apply to this. Letsolv can investigate this for you quickly and free of charge.
